MA Hoisting Licenses Going Digital

Effective August 2023, OPSI has switched from mailing hard copies of MA Hoisting Licenses to Digital.

OPSI is no longer mailing hard copies of new, or renewed, Hoisting Licenses.

This significant change is important for you to understand exactly what this means.

Your MA Hoisting License will not be sent as a Hard Copy

A Digital License may consist of the following for verification purposes:

  • Digital Photo of your Electronic License. A digital photo (electronic version) of your license, generated by the OPSI License Verification Site, www.mylicense.com.
  • Access your Digital License using the state's portal. You are allowed to verify your license in real time by logging into your MLO account and showing the authorized individual your digital license. NOTE: You must have internet access to perform this function. If you can't count on having Internet access at all times, we don't recommend relying on this. REMEMBER - you must be able to produce and furnish a copy of your license immediately.
  • Verify your Digital License through the state's public verification site. This verification also requires Internet access at all times, so it won't work if you don't have your phone or your phone's battery is dead. You may verify your license in real time by accessing OPSI's public online license verification system. You must also produce a government-issued photo ID with this option. You can show proof of your licensure by accessing the OPSI's public license verification site and searching for your license. If you use this option, we recommend you have the state's verification site bookmarked to your mobile device. The good news? You wouldn't need to remember a username and password.
  • Screenshot of Online License Verification. A screenshot of your online verification from the public online verification system together with a government-issued photo ID is also acceptable.

If you don't always carry your cell phone or prefer to have a hard copy with you instead, don't worry, you can still print a hard copy from the state's portal and carry that printed license with you.

Why not carry both? A digital license saved to your phone and a printed copy that you store in your glove box just in case your phone or mobile device isn't handy or has a dead battery.

Now's the time to check your license! If it's expired, check out our Online Renewal Classes!

No matter how you decide to carry your license, make sure it's a current license and hasn't expired. Also, make sure the full license number and expiration date are visible. Don't forget to take a new screen shot of your renewed license. It won't do you any good to show an expired license.

How to Get Your Digital Massachusetts Hoisting License

OPSI has made it easy to get access to your Digital Hoisting License once it's been issued. You've probably already used this portal in the past to either apply for a new license, or renew an existing one.

  1. Once logged in, you should see your MA Hoisting License under, "All Existing Licenses Held".
  2. Enter your license number and registration code. Look in the upper right-hand corner of your renewal form to find them. If you don't have access to a renewal form, contact OPSI-info@mass.gov to request your code. The email subject line should read: Registration Code Request for **insert license number**.
  3. Click, Find License, in the bottom right-hand corner and My License will retrieve your license info.\
  4. View or Print Your Digital License.

Before you get started, you must enable pop-ups in your browser to view the digital license. If you need help enabling pop-ups, consult your browser help.

Log-in to your MyLicenseOne account with your username/password. Review your Existing Licenses Held and find the license you wish to view or print. Select the three dots in the Actions column. Select Print XX Photo ID (XX = License Type Marker)

Clicking the Print button will trigger a pop-up that contains a downloadable PDF of your license.

You can either save this PDF to your smartphone, or other mobile device or print it out to keep a hard copy.

If you have trouble with these steps then you can review OPSI's step-by-step instructions to solve your issues.

The Bottom Line:

Effective August 3, 2023 - You will no longer receive a Hard Copy of your Massachusetts Hoisting License. The Office of Public Safety and Inspections (OPSI) is now requiring all licensed individuals to carry a Digital MA Hoisting License on them at all times on a mobile device. If the licensed individual does not have a mobile device, then they are allowed to carry a Hard Copy of their license, printed by the individual to show upon request of an authorized individual. This new regulation is required by new, and renewing license holders.
